We place a great amount of emotional importance on our homes. Have you ever just “felt at home” somewhere? Or heard the expression, “Home is where the heart is”? Your home is a sanctuary, a place where you can just be yourself, let your hair down and relax. Homes are a direct reflection of the combined energies of all who live there. They are as different as the people who occupy them. Some are chaotic and busy, while others are peaceful and calm, some are bright and airy, while others are dark and heavy. Your surroundings influence your mood and vise versa.
Here are some ideas to add some positive energy and magic to your most important space-your home...
On the practical side, decluttering and organizing your home can change the atmosphere tremendously. When we don't feel comfortable in our own home, it is often a reflection of how we feel about ourselves and we don't feel comfortable in our own skins. This does not mean that your home should look like it is ready to be in a magazine at all times! There are vastly different ways to organize things and what may look like a hot mess to one person, may actually be a very systemized order to another. You need to find what works for you. When your home feels organized, YOU feel organized and oftentimes more motivated and relaxed. Try starting with one small section of your home to organize and declutter, even just one corner of a room or a drawer and see if you feel differently. I guarantee that you will at least feel a sense of accomplishment!
Try adding some color by painting a wall or a room. Colors can dramatically affect your mood! Light colors can make a small room feel larger and brighter, while dark colors can make a large room feel more cozy and intimate. Choose colors that appeal to you and make you feel good.
Here are some basic color associations-
Red-stimulating and intense, can raise blood pressure, stimulate conversation, and create a strong impression. In the dining room, it can increase appetite.
Yellow-happy and welcoming, but can create feelings of frustration and anger in large amounts. In the kitchen, it can increase metabolism.
Blue-relaxing and serene, can lower blood pressure, but too much dark blue can actually evoke sadness. When used in an office, it can stimulate productivity.
Green-calming and earthy, encourages comfort and if used in the bedroom can increase fertility.
Purple-dramatic and warm, helps with creativity. Lighter shades are warm and relaxing.
Orange-excitement and enthusiasm, increases energy levels. If used in a home gym, can increase activity.
Pink-Calming and warm, can stimulate love, playfulness and kindness in a bedroom. Pink is the opposite of red, the longer you are exposed to it, the calmer you feel.

Adding houseplants to your home can bring some nature inside. Be careful which plants you get if you have pets, as some can be poisonous to our furry friends! Plants not only look beautiful, but they can also purify the air, relieve stress, and remove negative energies from your home.
Here are some associations for a few common houseplants-
Cactus-is a very protective plant and can promote calmness and relaxation.
Golden Pothos-alleviates stress and negativity and produces positive vibrations that attract money and good fortune.
African Violets-stimulate spirituality and are protective.
Aloe Vera-good for treating minor burns, also repels negativity and prevents accidents in the home.
Spider Plant-another protective plant
Peace Lily-improves spiritual and mental well-being
Jasmine-increases love and positive energy
Lavender-very soothing and relieves stress Rosemary-stimulates the mind and reduces fatigue
Bamboo-healing and promotes good fortune Ivy-guards against negativity and promotes love
Snake Plant-promotes health, strength, creativity, and prosperity
Dragon Tree-brings luck, longevity, and protection
And since we are coming into the Holiday season, hanging a wreath on your door welcomes good energies into the home and while keeping negative energies out.
I hope you enjoyed this article and I hope it inspires you to add some magic to your home!
Love & Light,
Jess
